Trauma Recovery
Trauma isn’t just something that happened in the past—it can live on in the body, shaping how you think, feel, and respond to the world. You might find yourself feeling on edge, disconnected, or overwhelmed without fully understanding why. These responses aren’t flaws; they’re signs that your nervous system has been working hard to protect you.
At Vital Mind Psychology, we offer trauma-informed care that recognizes the deep connection between mind, body, and nervous system. Whether your trauma stems from a single incident or long-term experiences like childhood neglect or relational harm, we meet you with compassion and help you move at your own pace.
Hannah Boehmer, Registered Provisional Psychologist, is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which is a structured therapeutic method designed to help the brain effectively reprocess painful and distressing memories while safely managing the emotional charge associated with them.
Through the EMDR process, clients are guided in moving through their trauma without the necessity of retelling every single detail, thereby facilitating a healing experience that helps restore a profound sense of calm, balance, and control in their lives.
Eric Kang, Registered Psychologist, offers Advanced Integrative Therapy (AIT), a comprehensive and somatic-based approach that effectively works in harmony with the body, energy system, and unconscious mind to release trauma at its very root.
AIT uniquely integrates talk therapy with somatic and energetic techniques to help clear the areas where traumatic energy is held in the body. This process supports deep emotional release, promotes insight, and fosters true embodied healing throughout the therapeutic journey.
Counselling for ADHD
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) isn’t just about focus—it can show up in all kinds of ways, from trouble staying organized or keeping routines, to feeling overwhelmed, forgetful, or “too much.” Many people with ADHD spend years feeling like they’re not trying hard enough, when really, their brain just works differently.
Our intern counsellor, Alyssa Lightfoot, offers supportive, down-to-earth counselling for children, teens, and adults with ADHD. She understands that ADHD is about more than attention—it’s about how your brain handles emotions, energy, planning, and even creativity.
In counselling, Alyssa can help you better understand how your brain works, uncover your strengths, and find tools that actually make sense for your life. Whether you’ve just been diagnosed or have known for a while, support can help you move past shame and into more confidence and self-trust.
Counselling for Neurodivergent Minds
Alyssa Lightfoot, our intern counsellor, specializes in working with neurodivergent teens and adults—particularly those who are autistic, highly sensitive, or who experience the world in ways that don’t always fit within typical expectations.
Alyssa offers neurodiversity-affirming support grounded in the belief that there is nothing wrong with your brain. Instead of trying to “fix” or mask who you are, she helps you explore how your mind works, reduce burnout and self-judgment, and build a life that fits you—not the other way around.
Whether you're navigating a recent diagnosis, exploring your identity, dealing with sensory overload, or simply want a space where you can be fully yourself without having to explain, Alyssa creates a safe, respectful environment where your experiences are understood and valued.
